What Are The Side Effects Of Olanzapine?

My friend's psych dr. suggested adding Olanzapine 2.5 mg daily to his present 150 mg daily Pamelor for depression and anxiety. He has been on Pamelor for about 3 months with little or no improvement. I am concerned about the adverse reactions/side effects of Olanzapine...

Ican understand your problem. Nothing to worry!
Olanzapine is a safer drug as compared to Chlopromazine the older drug used for similar clinical condition.
However it is known to cause agranulocytosis (decrease white blood cells), Increase in cholesterol and glucose level in the blood in some patients.
For the reasons mentioned above you should have periodic CBC to detect agranulocytisis . In case if you get infection like sore throat fever you should report to your doctor so that he could switch over to a better medication.
