Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has a low slow heart beat of about 50 and under when I check his BP. The Dr has prescribed Minipress 1MG half morning and half at night for moderate blood pressure and an enlarged prostate. Is Minipress going to make his heart rate too low? I have read Minipress is to be taken while awaiting prostate surgery... which he doesn t intend to have as his psa is normal... just an enlarged prostate which makes him have to urinate twice each night.
Minipress is an alpha blocker. It does not reduce the heart rate but may increase the heart rate. So your husband's low heart rate is not due to Minipress. Try making him do a light exercise. If his heart rate does not pick up, he should see a doctor and have an EKG done. If you have further queries, I am available to answer them. Dr. Noble Zachariah, Kuwait. If this answer has helped you, please indicate the same to guide others who might have a similar query. Thanks
