Hello- my daughter is 8 and was just diagnosed with Precocious Puberty (began breast development at 7 3/4. Her bones & MRI show her at development of 10. Trying to determine pro s/con s of Lupron treatment, given the long range side effects. Any help folks can offer? Also starting her with a nutritionist to see if diet can help- always been 90th percentile for her height/weight.

Hi,

Lupron depot or injection contains leuprolide that belongs to the group of medications known as gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists is used to treat prostatic carcinoma, precocious puberty both in boys and girls, endometriosis, uterine fibroids etc.

Side effects of Lupron are hot flashes, tachycardia or rapid heartbeat, dizziness, insomnia, memory loss, hypotension or low blood pressure, hematuria, joint pain, depression, anxiety, vitamin D deficiency, bone pain, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, osteopenia, fibromyalgia, autoimmune diseases, degenerative disc disease, muscle pain, breast pain, nausea, vomiting, sweating, allergic reactions etc. These side effects may go away with the passing of time as her body adjusts to this medication. If these side effects persist for long or bother her, then she should inform her prescribing doctor first for medical help.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
