Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been directed by my doctor to take Diltiazen 300mg once a day to control A Fib (high heart rate, irregular) I was on Metaprolol 50 mg. twice a day. Poor control and swollen ankles and extreme fatigue. We are now trying Ditiazen.I m about to start tomorrow. What is your opinion.
Diltiazem is quite effective for the treatment of abnormal heart rhythms such as atrial fibrillation, however, it has a few notable side effects and these include: swelling of your feet, headaches, dizziness, reduced heart rate, and drop in blood pressure.
These symptoms are often mild, but if the dizziness and slowed heart rate, become severe or if you develop itchy skin rashes after commencing it, please stop and get back to your doctor.
I hope i have answered your question, please feel free to get back to me if you have more concerns.
Best wishes.
