Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Chewing gum is a soft, cohesive substance designed for chewing but not swallowing. Most chewing gums are considered polymers. Now a days, chewing gum is made from butadiene-based synthetic rubber.
Various myths tell that swallowed gum will remain in a human stomach for up to 7 years, as it is not digestible. Swallowed gum, in most cases, will pass through the system as quickly as any other food.
If you have swallow gum, it's true that your body can't digest it. But the gum moves relatively intact through your digestive system and is excreted in your stool.
On rare occasions, large amounts of swallowed gum combined with
constipation have caused
intestinal obstruction, especially in children.
Hence, you need not worry much about it. Drink good quantities of fluids and eat fibre rich diet to add bulk to the feces, so that it can be easily excreted.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
