What Are The Chances Of Recovery After Heart Attack And Coma?

A friend of our suffered a heart attack this morning. He is 44 years old and in good health. He was at the gym, and was found anywhere from 3-10 minutes after the attack. The first responders could not find a pulse and they were able to get his pulse back after using the paddles 9 times. He is now in a medically induced coma for the next 48 hours. There are no signs of a brain bleed. What are his chances for making a full recovery?

Hi, welcome to healthcaremagic, i have read your question, its really sad to know the number of lives we lose due to sudden cardiac death.

The prediction of recovery in this case is difficult. It entirely depends on the time he was pulseless before revival. While 3 minutes is still somewhat acceptable 10 min will be quite late.

Now if his vital parameters like pulse ,blood pressure, oxygen saturation, end organ functions are fine, his recovery will be decided by his brain functions...that is amount of damage the brain has suffered due to lack of oxygen owing to pulselessness as brain is very sensitive for that.

Hope i answered your querry, i wish him all the best for recovery.
