What Are The Adverse Effects Of Taking Ibuprofen And Pain Killers During Pregnancy?
Hi doctor, in the past three months I ve been suffering from a headache and abdominal pains, so I used grandpa, bruffen and other strong pain killers such as adcodol every single day because they are the only pills that help the headache and abdominal pains. The day before yesterday I decided to go to the clinic and the nurse did me a pregnancy test and it came out positive and the scan said I am 14 weeks pregnant, I did another one this morning and it also came out positive. Now, I would like to know if the pills and grandpa I used are not going to cause any harm to my unborn baby

Ibuprofen is commonly used as a pain killers.
It has been assigned as ''Pregnancy risk category'' by US FDA.
It is category D in third trimester of pregnancy. That means there is enough evidence that it is harmful for babies if taken during third trimester.
Though no clearcut data are available regarding effect of ibuprofen during rest of pregnancy, it is advisable not to use ibuprofen during pregnancy.
Now regarding the other medicine Adcodol.
Adcodolcontains the following ingredients:
Paracetamol 450 mg
Codeine Phosphate 10 mg
Caffeine 45 mg
Doxylamine Succinate 5 mg
All of these medicine have to be checked individually.
Paracetamol is almost safe during pregnancy.
Studies have shown that Codeine this can cause problems for the baby. If too much is used it can also cause withdrawal symptoms.
Caffeine has been shown to cause birth defects in large doses, typically low and normal doses are considered acceptable.
Finally, Doxylamine is considered safe in the use of pregnancy.
One or two doses of Ibuprofen and adcodol are safe. But do not take in more amount.
Based on the above information, I cannot recommend the use Ibuprofen or Adco-dol while you are pregnant.
