What Are Possible Causes For Ear And Jaw Pain?

Hi i was wondering what the possible causes of ear ache in conjunction with jaw pain and possible swelling could be. He had bilateral jaw swelling about 5 years ago with some respiratory compromise. He was told at a hospital in france that this was related to his parotid glands. Mumps was out ruled and he received possibly steroids before being discharged soon after. He had no systemic symptoms at that time. I thought perhaps sarcoidosis or sjogrens.

Hi..
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I have gone through your query and can understand your health concerns..

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms it is a kind of clear indication that he had Mumps which is an infection of Parotid gland caused by virus and it is mostly bilateral and causes a swollen face with pain in ear and jaw..
It is a highly contagious during the initial 5 days and the symtoms of the disease appear after about 15 to 2O days after getting exposed to virus..

As your son was treated and now he is free of symptom you need not to worry as there are very less chances of relapse of infection and if it occurs the symptoms are mild..
After exposure there is no use of giving preventive injection also..
Once there is exposure the antibodies are formed in the body which fights against any further exposure to the virus and helps in preventing infection..

Hope this information helps..
