What Are My Chances Of Getting An Infection?

Accidentally stuck pointer finger after giving insulin injection. The person does not have HIV, hep b, or hep c. It bled a little bit and I washed with antibacterial soap, squeezed out blood and then used peroxide on it. Do I need any follow ups or need to contact my personal doctor?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

As you have got pricked with an used insulin needle there are chances of infection only in case if the individual who used the needle has infections that are transmitted via blood but in case if he/she is negative for infections then you might be safe and will not catch infection..

Also if the needle was contaminated with blood then only the chances are high..

You can get a precautionary test done after a week to rule out for any abnormal infectious organisms like bacteria or virus in blood and get another test done after one month..
In case if nothing is diagnosed then chances of infections are least probable..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
