General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about your friend, burning feet, numbness down one side of her body, tingling sensation lasting for hours especially at night, wants to know the cause and which Doctor to see.
The commonest causes can be anything of the following:
Vitamin B 6 deficiency along with other nutrients.
Diabetes as you have mentioned.
Any other neurological involvement that needs detailed evaluation.
Spinal cord problem.
Hence I would advise her the following:
First consult an Internist and get the clinical and lab work done.
Needs MRI of the whole spine so that a proper cause can be found allowing a proper referral to a particular Specialist for further evaluation, investigations and proper management.
Correction of Vitamin deficiency may help a lot.
Stress and anxiety too can add on hence to avoid these.
Diabetes or any other disease if present needs proper management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
