Welcome to HCM! Congratulations on wanting to lose weight and you have already recognized the fact that your antidepressant may be playing a role. It is common so don't give up your med, learn to work around it. Most probably you are having trouble with your hunger hormone ghrelin.

You need a good eating plan with small frequent meals with protein as first meal of the day. Increase soluble fibers to help control hunger (oats, barley, cheerios, metamucil)

Drink green tea in am to stimulate metabolism and take vitamin D (if tested you are likely deficient).

Start and maintain a combination of cardio and strength training. When you do increase your protein to 1.1 gm/kg. Cut down a little on the carbs, especially white noodles, potatoes, white bread, sugar and juice.

If you want a weight loss pill to help kick start things, there is a perfect one out now for your profile to discuss with your doctor. It is called qsymia and it has phentermine (appetite suppressant) and topimax.

Good luck and I hope I have helped. Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
