Suggest Ways To Manage Side Effects Of Medicine Used To Treat Osteoporosis

I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis. I am terrified of the various drugs used to treat it because I usually have the severe side effects on any prescription drug that has been tried on me for OTHER health issues. The only prescription med that I have ever used without side effects was Activella for HRT after menopause. I was on it for a long period of time (about 12 years) between the ages of 50 to 62. I am now 72 years of age. My primary care doctor has advised me to research the various options. He knows that my body never reacts normally . I have already exhausted the treatments of calcium, D3, and exercise. He agreed that HRT was a possibility for me even at my age and the extra benefit is that I still have hot flashes (although not as bad as when I was younger.)

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, if you are confirmed to have osteoporosis based on T score and Z score estimations on DEXA scan, and bone density seems to below, you may need to have injectable or oral bisphosphonates like ibandronate or zolidronate etc.

The symptoms can be peri menopausal but HRT may not be sufficient.
The supplements of calcium and vitamin D3 should be combined with ossien mineral complexes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
