My daughter scratches a lot to a point it breaks the skin til it bleeds. I don t know what is causing her to do this. She hides to scratch because she knows I will say something to her. It is mostly on her exposed skin. It is on the bottom of her legs and her arms mostly. I think it is a reaction to being biten by misquitos. What could it be and how can I treat this. I don t want this to scar her skin for life she is such a beautiful young lady I don t want this to affect her in the long run. She is almost 11 years old. I have tried cortisone, hydrocortisone ,Neosporin, lotions for itching etc. She has been to a dermatologist and they were no help. She said it could be a stress thing and to keep doing what I m doing. I have never heard of this stress thing what does this mean? Can you please help or suggest something that could. thank you
The probable diagnosis is papular urticaria or insect bite hypersensitivity. You should always use a mosquito net while you sleep. Keep the skin moisturized as much as possible by applying emolients regularly. You con start an antihistamine like fexofenadine if itching is too troublesome. Topical steroid cream like mometasone over the affected area may be applied.
