Suggest Treatment To Raise Platelet Count In Person Suffering With Cancer

My father had to miss 2 chemotherapy treatments because his blood platelet count was 60,000. Is their anything to do to help raise your platele count. And as he is on a blood thinner his INR is very low 1.1 and I also would like to know if Chemotherapy can affect your Warfarin and it s affectiveness and lower your INR? He has had DVT in his left leg and we are concerned with the Oncologists keeping his INR so low.

Hi,

In few studies seen low molecular weight, Heparin is better than Warfarin unless contraindicated due to some other reasons. Platelets count till at least 20000, then transfusion is required. Diet can be helpful to raise counts, diary products, fruits, vegetables etc.

Treatment for DVT in these cases is important. He should learn breathing exercises and do meditation, it also has positive effects on platelets and INR too. He can take help from a surgeon for DVT and oncologist. INR mismatch mostly needs dose management.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
