Suggest Treatment For Vomiting And Fatigue

My friend was choking yesterday and before the HM could be performed she started vomiting. Since she has been extremely fatigued, experienced a headache and last night was actually sneezing out the food she choked on. Is this normal and should she receive after care?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for your query.

Yes she should be seen by a doctor to make sure all is OK.
She may have aspirated some food (breathed it into her lungs) as there were food particles when she sneezed.
Complications due to this are breathing difficulty and lung infection.

I recommend :
- a physician consult asap
-a chest x-ray after 24 hours of the event to check for any reaction to the possibly aspirated food.
-close monitoring for 5 days to detect any infection.
If she is fine, then nothing to worry about.
If she develops a fever, breathing difficulty, or continues to be lethargic/drowsy, take her to the ER right away.
Steam inhalations can soothe the respiratory tract and help clear secretions better.
She may need antibiotics depending on what her doctor finds on clinical examination.

Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you both good health
