Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
MY husband has been vomiting and direeah. It seems like it is slowing down but he is still heaving . It doesn t seem like he has anything more to throw up, but he is. He s been sucking on an ice cube and trying to sip water but nothing wants to stay down. What should I do?
hello, 1) your husband might have food related gastroenteritis 2) he should undergo basic tests i.e. CBC, stool examination. 3) to maintain adequate hydration, he must drink ORS powder mixed water throughout day. In case he is not able to drink then he require hospitalization for IV fluid support. 4) also he need specific antibiotics to control infection. if frequency of diarrhea is more then he also require medication to control stool frequency. 5) multiple episodes of vomiting, diarrhea more than 6 times, not able to drink/eat warrants consultation at ER for prompt treatment
