Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Sir, I have varicocele in my left side. I am only 22 years old. I am not married. My semen analysis reports are normal. What should I do as its size is increasing? Should I go for surgery? If surgery then will it affect my sex life with partener after marriage may be 4-5 years later? Will I be able to become a father?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Varicocele is an enlargement of the veins within the loose bag of skin that holds your testicles (scrotum). If not attended to in time, it may cause of low sperm production and decreased sperm quality, which can lead to infertility. If it causes symptoms, it needs to be repaired surgically. It is advisable to get scrotal ultrasound and doppler done to know at what stage it could be. Depending on what stage it is, it can be treated by means of open surgery or laproscopic surgery or percutaneous embolisation. The procedure will not affect your sex life later on and also would not affect your fertility. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
