Hello,

I read your message and understood your problem.

Bactrim is a drug that is created as a combination of sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim antibiotics in one tablet (it is available as oral suspension too).

This medication has some side effects in the liver. These are not usual but they do happen. Hepatitis, elevated liver function tests even bilirubin and transaminase are most common.

But there is evidence that Bactrim may cause liver lesions and lead to the hepatic insufficiency. Furthermore, it may affect your pancreas and the kidneys at the same time. These events happen very fast and in optimal dosage since the first pill is taken.

The right quadrant abdominal pain may be the first sign of the liver damage. My advice is to stop the drug intake and talk to your doctor to substitute Bactrim with another antibiotic.

Since the medication is stopped the liver damage resolves by itself.

Hope this is helpful for you.
