Suggest Treatment For Throbbing Pain In The Lower Leg

I fell two years ago, on a chair with metal leg...it bruised me from groin area down inside of leg to ankle area...to this day, it is a bruise inside right ankle area, and sore to touch, but worse part is an agonizing throbbing pain of the lower leg.

Hello,

Two years is too long for the bruise to be still present. If the bruise is not recently set, then, there is another bad injury of the right ankle area, and need immediate medical attention.

So, better consult with an orthopedic specialist as soon as possible. You need further x-ray and MRI of the ankle joint for further evaluation. Plus you need a series of the blood test to rule out possible problems with blood coagulation.

For the moment, I can only suggest to:
- apply heparin gel locally to help disperse the accumulated blood (the bruised part)
- apply analgesic cream locally
- do not use your ankle until your orthopedic will advise.
- applying alternating warm and cold compresses can help
- we also recommend to apply chopped onions with coarse salt locally for 3 days overnight to see changes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
