Suggest Treatment For Tenderness In Hip After An Injury

my husband fell on his hip 1 week + 2 days ago playing soccer. (37yo white male). It s still a little tender, but seems to be healing normally except for the visible signs of fluid collecting in the injured area. No bruising present, just fluid under the skin. What should be done? Does it need to be drained by a Dr? Or will it reabsorb by itself in time?

Hello,

After injury, there is a tendency of fluid retention in the injured area. Your husband is suggested to get avoid extra salt intake, avoid salty snacks. He should control his blood glucose level at all cost to aid faster healing. He can take NSAIDs, after food. It will help to relieve and reduce pain, swelling and soreness. He can apply ointment Thrombophob, on the area affected to reduce any blood clots below the skin.

The symptoms should get reduced in a day or two, if it remains persistent you are suggested to get your husband clinically examined by an Orthopedics to rule out hip effusion and hematoma on the hip. He will have to go through few tests and investigations. His treatment will depend on the diagnosis made.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,

Fluid collection in the injured area means the wound is not healed yet. My recommendations are as follows:
1) Once consult an orthopedic doctor
2) Your husband may need a clinical examination in person.
3) X-ray hope joint may be required
4) If necessary, ultrasound imaging of hope joint is to be done

The following are few probable causes of fluid collection at the hip joint:
1) Trochanteric bursitis
2) Hope fracture
3) Gluteal tendon injury
4) Iliopsoas tendonitis

Please discuss the above mentioned details with your orthopedic doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
