Suggest Treatment For Swollen And Painful Knee

I have a painful swollen knee for several weeks. Swelling and pain radiated both up my leg into my hip and lower back (buttock is even swollen) and sometimes down into my foot. Only on the left side. Scheduled for an MRI but do you have any idea what could be causing this? There is a family history of thrombosis

Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist 's  Response
hi,

thank you for providing the brief history of you.

A thorough neuromuscular assessment is advised.

As you knee is swollen a thorough assessment of the knee is recommended. Also, when the pain is radiating from lower back down the foot, it could be related to the lumbar spine degenerative disc disease. Since you are undergoing an MRI, the reports of the MRI will assist further.

If it is negative then, the doppler scan test will be advised and the reports will help assist further.

For the radiating pain you may get advise to undergo physical therapy by the ortho. As with physical therapy most patients recover with 99% functional ability.

Also, in my clinical practice we are able to manage 99% of recovery with a combination of the medicine and physical therapy
