Suggest Treatment For Swollen And Inflamed Tonsils

i am currently being treated with antibiotics for a possible case of strep throat. the anitbiotics are not clearing up the problem and i also noticed a black patch forming on one of my wisdom teeth. could this be causing the problem with my swollen tonsils and possible infection?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can very well understand your health concern..

As per your complain Strep throat which is a bacterial infection can be a possible cause for throat infection and at times if Strep test comes out to be negative sore throat can be due to viral infection (mono) leading to Pharyngitis and tonsillitis..

A black patch on the wisdom tooth is a sign of tooth decay and in case if there is deep decay leading to nerve inflammation can lead to tooth pain and the radiating pain can even cause soreness of throat and throat pain but in this case first there will be pain in tooth and then the radiating pain will affect throat..

To confirm that if the tooth decay is causing throat pain you need to consult a dentist and get evaluated by getting an x ray done, in case of nerve exposure treating the tooth with root canal treatment or extraction followed by antibiotics and painkillers can help..

In case if the tooth is decayed and nerves are not exposed then also you should get the filling of tooth done to prevent further complications..

For throat pain you should get a quick Strep test done and in case if it is positive then only antibiotics are to be taken..
In case if it is negative it is a case of viral Pharyngitis and tonsillitis and you need to take OTC painkiller like Ibuprofen(motrin or advil) for pain.
Do warm saline gargles.
Throat lozenges can help.
Avoid spicy food..

Hope this information helps and thanks for writing to Healthcare Magic..
