Hi Dear,
Welcome to HCM.
Understanding your concern.
Thanks for your query . It is very common to have swelling after
wisdom tooth extraction .
Swelling occur due to to reasons :-
- Firstly swelling occur due to trauma during the extraction to the
soft tissue . Because it is comparatively difficult to extract wisdom tooth.
- Secondly swelling occur due to
hematoma formation due to
injury procedure or puncturing of blood vessels during giving
anesthesia .
In case above two reasons swelling persist for 7-10 days , but in you case it persist for longer so it seems to me that the swelling is due to infection.
I would suggest you to :-
- Give warm compresses to swollen area 2-3 times a day .
- Take advil (if not allergic) or
tylenol for pain and swelling.
- Do beta-dine rinses twice a day .
Consult dentist or oral surgeon again for proper diagnosis .
Doctor may order x-ray of affected side to find out exact cause .
In case of infection doctor may prescribe antibiotics course (cefixim) . If the swelling is too much doctor may drain the site .
In case doctor find root chip left behind the he/she will extract the same by minor procedure .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
