Suggest Treatment For Swelling In Right Breast

Hi! I’m 34 years old, never had any problems before. As you can see on the photos, part of my right breast is swollen. This happened 2 or 3 months ago, I had a really bad PMS and I felt stinging in my right breast. In matter of hours this area got swollen and in the following days my entire breast was swollen and aching. It didn t go away for week or so and I was feeling really bad. Got my blood test and it was bacterial infection. So my doctor gave me antibiotics and the infection ended with that. In the meanwhile, I did the ultrasound and they said it is the accessory breast tissue. No one ever told me that I have accessory tissue when I did the ultrasounds before. Before the infection, this area looked exactly the same as my left breast. I can also see exactly the same part of tissue in my other, left breast - only it s not swollen. I m not pregnant. I also did my hormones test, and they are fine. The problem is, the swollen part didn t go away. It stays swollen, and then every time I m about to get my period it gets more swollen. Then after the period it gets better but it doesn t go away completely. It stays swollen as shown on the photos. I have noticed that my periods are heavier and I get headache during my periods, since this infection happened. What can I do to make it go away? Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your history, it may be mastitis. Kindly do mammography of that breast and consult with surgeon. Treatment mainly depends upon the underlying conditions. For pain you can take tab. Tylenol after consultation. You can apply ice or warm fomentation to that breast.

Take care.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
