Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Bruising On Ankles

My mother is paralyzed from the waist down due to a car accident when she was 18yrs of age she is now sixy three. has left ankle bruising and extreme swelling hot to the touch. fever of 102.7. Was seen in the er last night..they r/o blood clot and took an xray, then sent her home..did not even take a temp andy suggestions

Thanks for your question.

This looks like cellulitis or septic arthritis or Gout of left ankle.
With swelling, bruising and high degree fever she desperately needed to be admitted in inpatient department.

Need to look for fasting and post prandial blood glucose levels to rule out diabetes and should take blood culture, total and differential counts, ESR, serum uric acid levels, serum creatinine & calcium levels. X ray already taken.

Treatment: Analgesics if she has pain
Paracetamol for fever
Appropriate antibiotics if we suspect septic arthirits or cellulitis
