Suggest Treatment For Stomach Pain In An Elderly Person

My father is 78 years old and now he is suffering from pain in stomach. Doctor advised him to do the CECT test. Pathology department told us if the blood urea and creatinine test is normal then this test is possible. Please give me some knowledge about this test.

Hello,

I can understand your concern. CECT is a short name for Contrast Enhanced Computed Tomography. In this test, a contrast medium is injected in the body. The contrast passes in the body through blood vessels and gives light/dark images of different tissues and/or organs. Due to this difference in contrast, a radiologist and/or doctor can differentiate between normal and abnormal structures/tissues and can reach a diagnosis.

As a contrast medium injections is required for this test, it is mandatory that the brain, heart and kidneys of the patients are properly working. Kidney, because it has to excrete the contrast media after the test is finished. Normally, not all patients require urine test but as your father is of 78 years age, it is better to get tested for urea and creatinine to prevent future complications.

I hope this information clears your doubts. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic for your concern. I hope your father feels better soon!

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
