Suggest Treatment For Stabbing Pain And Swelling In The Feet

I stepped on a bottle cap with the outside edge of my foot near the little toe. Since then I have been having pain and swelling. It gets better sometimes and then worse again. If I press on the area it hurts and causes my foot to twitch and toes go a bit numb but as I press on the area I can feel it slowly deflating (like its full of fluid and it slowly seeps out as I press on it) and the twitching stops and so does the pain. The pain extends about 2-2 1/2 inches down the side of the foot. It is very painful if I press up on the bottom of my foot at the juncture of my little toe to my foot. I have tried wrapping it but that doesn t seem to help. By evening it is very swollen and by morning the swelling is usually gone. I also have tried elevating it during the day to little or no success. When I walk I get the stabbing pain and strange muscle twitching. I am going to try ibuprophine today and maybe aleve. I read that Epsom salts may help and maybe cold compress s. Please help?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for your question on HCM

I do understand your pain and discomforts

As per your history is concerned as your problem started after an injury so Deep vain thrombosis can not be ruled out and it id due to blood clots on legs.so you need a quick physical examination now and an Doppler ultrasound study to check venous circulations. Also, does a blood test like [D-DIMER].if confirmed your doctor will give you blood thinner like heparin in IV infusions for few days, then in tablet form warfarin for 3 months.

You can do few things at home during this time like-:

1)Do not sit long times do movement time to time

2)Try to quit smoking and try to lose weight if you are obese.

3)Make a plan to do regular exercise

4)Use a compression stocking on the affected leg

So make an appointment with your doctor on tomorrow and start treatment as soon as possible.

Hope that helps
