Suggest Treatment For Sporadic Paralysis On Left Side Of Body

My son has experienced sporadic paralysis on his left side ever since he was 15 years old. When he tries to stand up, or cross the street, or enter a room, sometimes his left face, hands, and foot are paralyzed. It happens once a day but I see it like once a week or a month. And what he thinks inside (like hating something or someone) is also expressed on his face. We had his brain and nerves checked at the neurologist but he said he was normal. We sent him to a psychologist which didn t seem to help and he didn t like it. What could this be, and what should we do as family to help him?

Hi,

Based on the symptoms you have described, your son may be experiencing a neurological condition such as hemiplegic migraine or transient ischemic attack (TIA). Hemiplegic migraine is a rare type of migraine that can cause temporary paralysis on one side of the body, along with other migraine symptoms such as headache and sensitivity to light and sound. TIAs, also known as mini-strokes, can cause temporary paralysis or numbness on one side of the body, along with other stroke symptoms such as difficulty speaking or understanding speech.

Your son must receive a thorough medical evaluation to determine the underlying cause of his symptoms. Additional testing, such as MRI or CT scans, may be necessary to rule out other potential causes.

In addition to medical treatment, it may be helpful for your son to work with a mental health professional to address any emotional or psychological factors that may be contributing to his symptoms. Cognitive-behavioral therapy or other forms of talk therapy can be useful in managing stress and improving coping skills.

As a family, it is important to provide support and understanding for your son as he navigates his symptoms and seeks treatment. Encourage him to prioritize self-care, such as getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, and engaging in regular physical activity.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

Sporadic paralysis on one side of the body can be a symptom of several different medical conditions. It is important to have your son evaluated by a neurologist to determine the underlying cause of his symptoms. Some possible conditions that may cause sporadic paralysis to include:
* Transient ischemic attack (TIA): TIA is a temporary blockage of blood flow to the brain, which can cause temporary paralysis on one side of the body.
* Migraine with aura: Some people with migraines may experience temporary paralysis on one side of the body as part of the aura that precedes the headache.
* Epilepsy: Some types of epilepsy can cause temporary paralysis or weakness on one side of the body.
* Multiple sclerosis (MS): MS is a condition that can cause neurological symptoms, including temporary paralysis on one side of the body.
* Functional neurological disorder (FND): FND is a condition in which a person experiences symptoms that resemble a neurological disorder, but with no underlying neurological cause.

Your son needs to continue seeking medical evaluation to determine the underlying cause of his symptoms. Additionally, seeking support from a therapist or counselor may help manage any emotional or psychological issues related to his condition.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
