Suggest Treatment For Spondylolisthesis Causing Severe Pain In Hip

i am 44, play competitive indoor and outdoor soccer, and I run. I have sponylthesis grade 2 (dx 3 yrs ago) and now have pretty bad right hip pain, right on top of upper hip bone, iliac crest. Feels wierd to push on it and painful. hurts to move hips, turn in bed, walking I feel it. I have dealt with bilateral hip pain for years now because of the spondo. I am still able to play sports, but I sure pay for it afterwards, as I can barely gt out of bed, or use hips in any way.

Hello,

Severe hip pain has the following causes:
1) Osteoarthritis
2) Rheumatoid arthritis
3) Bursitis
4) Osteonecrosis
5) Avascular necrosis of femur
6) Tendinopathy
7) Lumbar radiculopathy
8) Hip fracture
9) Stress fracture
10) Repetitive strain injury
11) iliotibial band syndrome

It can be due to spondylolisthesis of lumbosacral spine or any of the above reasons. You need to undergo the following investigations like X-ray both hip joints, and MRI hip joint if necessary. Please do consult an orthopedic specialist for further evaluation. Now for the time being, for pain relief, you can use NSAIDs like ibuprofen or Naproxen daily twice or opioids like Hydrocodone, Oxycodone and Tramadol.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
