Suggest Treatment For Spider Bite On The Leg For A 17-month-old
We believe our 17month old was bit by a spider a few days ago. The area was circular and you could see the bit marks and it started to harden and bruise. A day later it appeared better and we ve continued to monitor it. This evening, I noticed that now her lower leg is a lil swollen and a lil red. She behaves normal, not agitated, no signs of fever but it does itch. I m just concerned that now I noticed the leg is swollen, if that is ok to allow considering she was bit a few days prior. Thanks for you time.
As there is swelling involving the leg with history of spider bite, the most probable clinical condition is cellulitis from staph aureus infection likely. I would recommend a visit to his pediatrician and prescription of necessary antibiotics as cephalosporin, amoxicillin with clavulanic acid or others as per the clinician choice. Till that time, an elevation of the involved foot over 3-4 pillows and avoidance of excess walking, playing; application of ice for 5 minutes each 3 times a day would help great.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
