Suggest Treatment For Small Bumps On The Thighs Of A Child
Hi, we just noticed a red bump on my seven year old daughter s thigh and it has a black dot in the middle, it popped and clear liquid or pus has come out of it. It looks like red is spreading out in her skin in different directions. We are currently in Tanzania, East Africa and are worried what it might be. We do not know how long it might have been there. Thanks
The fact that it has pus in it I suggest a possibility of bacterial skin infection/ folliculitis Or a furuncle. I would suggest you to use an OTC topical antibacterial e.g 2% mupirocin ointment, twice daily for a few days. Topical antibiotic alone may be effective for a single lesion which has already drained, however, if the lesion grows Or becomes more painful a course of an Oral antibiotic may also be simultaneously started. My choice of oral antibiotic would be either flucloxacillion Or cephalexin for a week. Oral antibiotics are prescription drugs and therefore I suggest that you visit a doctor for the needful.
Regards
