Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i have a 4 year old niece.. who got her right hand and a small portion of her chest burnt accidentally by slipping up of Hot Tea over her two days yesterday. A local Doctor was consulted in emergency who advised for application of SilverEX ion (silver nitrate gel) for medication. However, today while applying the same.. it was very painful.. and later she was even bleeding from the affected parts. When consulted another doctor, he has advised to immediately discontinue SilverEX and rub away the formed dry dead skin with luke warm water until the it is removed completely. Her right palm has become quite swollen as well as black. I m quite worried. Can you please suggest?
Welcome To HCM This is Dr Amit. Let me help you in this case From the presentation it seems your niece is having 2nd degree burns which involves blisters and some thickening of the skin. And they are more serious because the damage extends beyond the top layer of skin. Management of burns includes Clean burns with soap and water All blisters should be left intact to minimise the risk of infection Non-adhesive dressing, with gauze padding is usually effective In case of infection antibiotics like cephalosporin or erythromycin can be used For the pain she can take paracetamol or ibuprofen. I will advise you to take get the dressing done under the guidance of your doctor Regards
