Suggest Treatment For Side Effects Of Dexamethasone
I ve been taking dexamethasone 1mg daily for the last year for chronic hypanatraemia. Apart from a tremendous weight gain, my medical problem hasn t been rectified. I m in the process of coming off them and curious what the withdrawal symptoms are as I haven t felt too good the past few days. Thanks, Amanda
The two major problems related to continuous steroid treatment are: drug side effects and symptoms due to changes in the balance of normal hormone secretion (withdrawal symptoms).
Steroid use cannot be stopped abruptly; tapering the drug gives the adrenal glands time to return to their normal patterns of secretion.
Withdrawal symptoms and signs are a weakness, fatigue, decreased appetite, weight loss, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Blerina Pasho, General & Family Physician
