Suggest Treatment For Sharp Pain In The Toe

From the top of my left foot through my big toe I feel sharp pain. It seems to stem from the area at the top of my foot right I the center where the leg ends and the foot begins - the indention between tendons. The pain can be best described as like being shocked- like an electrical current. Not a constant pain but frequent.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Sharp pain in the foot is commonly due to wearing of uncomfortable shoes, injury due to high impact exercise(sports activities/ jogging), peripheral neuropathy if diabetic.

A medical condition that may cause it is Planter fascitis, Achilles tendonitis, osteoarthritis.

You are suggested to visit a GP, get physically examined. Get blood & imaging tests. Your treatment will depend upon the pathology detected.

You can take NSAIDS, naproxen, one sos when needed. Apply a cold compress, give rest to your foot. Apply pain-relieving ointment & sprays.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
