Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hello. my brother has been experiencing stomach pain today and vomiting. he now has blood in his stool. what could this mean? 40 year old chinese male in good health. exercises daily but may not eat the best. lots of stress. angry guy. :) plz advise. thanks
The most common reason for acute vomiting, abdominal pain and blood in the stool is an infection of the gastrointestinal tract (stomach and intestines). These infections usually resolve with fluids and resting the bowel (no solid food till 4 hours with no symptoms) but in some cases , additional treatment may be needed, this may be the case for him.
Additional treatment consists of probiotics or medications such as peptobismol or lomotil to decrease the diarrhea.
When solid food is restarted , it should be dry foods initially.
There are other causes as well that would need to be considered if his symptoms are severe or do not improve within a few days.
I hope this helps
