Suggest Treatment For Severe Upper Respiratory Infection
I have very controlled asthma but I am allergic to Sulfa drugs. I was prescribed Famciclovir 500 mg for shingles since May 11. I also happen to have a severe upper respiratory infection. For the past 48 hrs my breathing has become increasingly more difficult. I am wheezing and feel like I m having an asthmatic reaction. I will see my doctor today but I ve stopped taking the Famciclover as I m concerned I may be allergic to it. Is there any connection between this drug and Sulfa drugs? Thank you
You are doing the right thing by consulting your doctor today. In my opinion, you might not be allergic to Famciclovir, as you have taken it for quite some time without a problem. Can you let me know on which date you have posted this query.
It could be an allergic bronchitis or a lower respiratory tract infection. After discussing it with your doctor, a course of bronchodilators/nebulisation, antihistamines and / antibiotics might help. Do get back to me if you need further clarifications.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Divya Kuttikrishnan,
