Suggest Treatment For Severe Upper Respiratory Infection

My daughter has a severe respiratory infections with upper and lower respiratory symptoms. One of the problems which may or may not be related are severe oral ulcers which present as very large plaques that are very painful, ulcerated and slough off with time. I know that there are lots of URI's going around, but now with the addition of the oral ulcers. She is currently taking OTC cough and cold meds, but the symptoms are worsening. Any suggestions for her?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain in case if your daughter is having symptoms of upper and lower respiratory tract infection and the skin are worsening you need to immediately consult ba Pulmonologist and get her evaluated and he can advise investigations like Blood tests, throat swab culture, chest x Ray, complete blood picture to rule out the exact cause of symptoms and treat accordingly..
She can be advised Antibiotics, anti allergics like Levocetrizine, anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, fever reducer like Acetaminophen, decongestant like Phenylephrine and Mucolytics like Ambroxol..
As far as Oral ulcers are concerned they can be due to.the infection itself or side effect of any of the medications..
You can make her Gargle with a numbing mouthwash for Lignocaine, take a multivitamin tablet daily and also do warm saline gargles..
Give her a soft and bland diet with sufficient fluids..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
