Suggest Treatment For Severe Tiredness After Colonoscopy Procedure

I had a colonoscopy and endoscope a couple months ago. I went to the doctor on 12-16 feeling tired and sluggish. He ordered blood work and did a CMP. I do not know the exact results. I called a couple days later to inquire about a prescription for metoprolol to be renewed. The doctor had the receptionist call me and she told me to stop taking the HZTZ (which I wasn t taking but a couple of days due to edema). She told me I was in chronic kidney failure stage 3. Of course she couldn t answer any questions. I went to the ER that afternoon because I still wasn t feeling well and my heart was beating hard. The ER doctor took blood and told me I was between dehydrated and pre-renal. I know this is not an all of a sudden thing but my PCP never mentioned anything about my kidneys before. I take several meds and have a complicated history, is kidney damage reversible?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Sorry to hear of your disease. Kidney diseases are two types :

1) Acute kidney injury (as said by the ER doctor may be caused by dehydration) is most of the times reversible After correcting the cause.

2) On the other chronic kidney disease (as said by your PCP) is most of the times irreversible.

However, most of the patient of chronic kidney disease so not proceed to end-stage renal disease but need lifelong management.

So it needs proper evaluation and confirmation of diagnosis and then plans ahead.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
