Suggest Treatment For Severe Stomach Cramps

My husband had stomach cramps after eating a lot of fried food (this is out of the ordinary for us) two days ago. He has had stomach cramps and two bowel movements since that included what appeared to be watery blood. This evening he passed gas and discharged blood that was very thick like a jelly. He had prostate cancer treatment in the last year (radiation) and is now cancer free with a very low PSA, no problems noted there with recent visit to oncologist and urologist. He is also on Xarelto for his A-fib. He is 60 years old. I am taking to him to our primary care doctor tomorrow but would appreciate any insight you might have. Thanks.

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

If there is abdominal cramps with watery bowel motions then there will be chances of electrolyte deficits in the blood with gastric upset.

So,this might be related to acute gastroenteritis or acute gastritis.

Your husband should be monitored for vitals signs like pulse, blood pressure etc.

He can take plenty of water with lemon juice (added salt),coconut water or WHO oral rehydration solution especially if there is nausea and vomiting also till your doctor's appointment and will feel better with this.

The important thing is to combat cramps and for which he would also require antiemetic drugs (mostly oral) with antibiotics (norfloxacin with antiprotozoals like ornidazole preferred) with other water and electrolyte fluids.

It is good that he gas recovered well from prostate cancer and his PSA is within acceptable range.

So,it would be advisable that he should go to physician for further help and for all routine blood investigations and proper treatment.

Thanks and Regards,
