Suggest Treatment For Severe Sore Throat And Swollen Uvula

Hello This is the second day I have woke up with a very very sore throat and a swollen uvula. My throat is extremely red and has a few white spots (look like sores) on it. I do not have tonsils. It feels as if something is stuck behind my uvula maybe phlegm? I wake up and my throat is extremely dry and seriously painful. Warm liquids such as coffee and hot tea seem to soothe it for the split second it takes me to swallow the gulp I take. DayQuil is not effective in treating symptoms, neither is ibuprofen, Tylenol, or BC powders. I also have congestion and body aches. No fever as of yet, but very fatigued. Can not talk without pain, and it is difficult to position at night to breathe comfortably.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
I share your concern
Looking at your description this could be due to Upper respiratory tract infection either viral or bacterial infection
at times it can also be caused by allergic reaction or common cold.

If I were your treating doctor I would have advised you for a battery of tests like blood for hemoglobin, CBC, liver function test or throat culture and accordingly a course of antibiotics preferably penicillin group or azithromycin group of medicines.

You should do gargling with antiseptic month wash or warm saline water
Deep breathing exercises and steam inhalation will definitely help you
anti allergic drugs or nasal spray is also advisable

Hope this helps you
wish you good health
