Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother has severe pain in one leg from the knee to ankle. Also, she has episodes of muscle spasm and her blood feels like it is boiling from groin to knee. her fingers cramp and she has to pull them apart also. as far as the groin to knee, she has episodes in the middle of the night and she screams-she describes it as a cramp that feels worse than having a baby-the cramps last about 5 minutes. As her adult daughter it is a very scary thing to witness. I have nagged her many decades about her smoking but she won t stop. She has been suffering with this for 10 years!! she is 78--thank you,
Thanks for asking HCM I think your mother is suffering from severe deficiency of calcium, vitamin B12 and, Vitamin D3. Please do these test to rule out the cause of her cramps and burning sensation which could be polyneuritis. Is your mother hypertensive or diabetic? intermittent claudication may also be a rare cause due to history of smoking. Treatment: She can start with some calcium and vitamin D supplements along with vitamin B 12 and Vit E. Diet: Green leafy vegetables, Dry fruits, food rich in omega 3 fatty acid, milk twice daily. lots of fresh fruits. stop smoking. Evaluate cardiac profile, renal profile, liver profile, and lipid profile, uric acid, RA factor. hope this will help you. Thanks. Dr. S. Mukadam.
