Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was a former gymnast and my kids were asking about a split leap about a month ago or so. I am very active so I said I could show them. I was not warmed up but I did it anyhow and instantly felt extreme pain in my left leg(also the same leg that went forward in the split leap). I since then have not been able to sit and have constant pain in my buttock area down the whole left leg. I am sick of the pain and want to go to the doctor with possibilities of injuries. Also I feel like I have given it time and should have some relief but have none?????

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Thanks for the query. I understand your concern. The Problem could be because of stress to muscle ( specially pyriformis muscle ) which has started compressing the sciatic nerve- caused by sudden leg movement You need consultation of an orthopedic surgeon & MRI to confirm the cause followed by specific management.( anti inflammatory , muscle relaxants, steroid or local anesthetic injection /physiotherapy) Till then you should take rest Avoid pain triggering postures . Cold compress would ease the pain. Over the counter pain medicine can be taken after food, Thanks.
