Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain And Stiffness In The Calf Region

When I walk steadily (no pausing) my calf (calves) will stiffen with great pain - the stiffness is not sudden but builds up if I don t stop walking - after a few minutes the stiffness will subside and I can continue walking. If I walk slowly the pain is small but will still increase unless I stop and relax - by propping my foot up for a minute or two for the stiffness to subside. Is there anything that I can do to mitigate this or reduce the effects?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

This may indicate that you have peripheral vascular disease, this is impaired circulation in the legs.
When walking, the legs would need an increase in blood supply, if there is a reduced blood flow , then this may be difficult , resulting in pain.

When you stop the pain would then decrease.

This can be assessed by visiting your doctor who can check the lower limb pulses and also suggest tests such as brachial/ankle index.

Controlling risk factors such as diabetes, smoking, blood pressure and cholesterol would help.
Activity can be continued, it would help as well.

I hope this helps
