Hi, I have previously had random ocular migraines followed by headaches but the headaches are now less sever. The frequency of vision impairment has increased in the past 4 months and I can have them twice a week. They only lasy about 30 minutes and the vision gradually normalizes. What would cause these vision waves (start in the centre and the open up to the perfiery before going away) and how can I reduce them. Old wives tale was to have coke with sugar together with a laxative and aspirin! How would this help? Is there a relationship between the waves and constipation/stomach disorder? Thanks
You are likely having visual aura associated with migraine, the disease is called 'migraine with aura'. There are several preventive medicines which can be taken as Amitriptyline, Flunarizine, Propranolol. Constipation should not have an association with visual aura and on scientific grounds, coke with sugar with a laxative and aspirin is not suggested as a preventive management.
Hope that helps. If you have any further questions, I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.
