General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Menstrual cramps is also known as 'dysmenorrhea'. It needs to be treated by anti-inflammatory anagesic and anti-spasmodic drugs.
Some of the drugs like Ibuprofen, Naproxen and Ketoprofen work better if taken just at the beginning of menstruation and can be continued as long as it would be required.
The other choice would be to use Mefenamic Acid in combination with Dicyclomine.
The other option would be to start on some form of hormonal birth control pills as it would reduce or eliminate the menstrual flow itself and would help in control or stop menstrual cramps.
Kindly consult Gynecologist in this regard and get evaluated so that proper treatment to suit you can be instituted.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
