Suggest Treatment For Severe Itching Around The Arm

Hello my name is shay & I went to the er on Monday night due to severe itching, burning, achy pain with red bumps on my right bicep around my tattoo that is about a week old, sunday night my dog rubbed against my tattoo and that night where he touched the bottom of my tattoo it started itching horribly and had little red bumps, I cleaned it and it didn t help. I called mosaic medical and asked them about it and they advised me to take Benadryl and if it didn t help to go see a dr. I took the Benadryl and it gave me no relief I went to work and by the end of my shift it had spread to my entire arm around my tattoo and down my forarm and wrist. I went to the er and they said it was either an allergic reaction or an infection. they told me to take bemndaryl for 24 hrs and gave me a antibiotic cream to put on the red sores and they seemed to be hetting better with moderate itching and aching the last couple days. lastnight I noticed they are spreading to the rest of my body on my breasts, left leg, stomach, back & side with the same symptoms I had in the beginning what are they? should I go back to the dr?

Hello,

I can understand your concern for severe itching around the arms and spreading of the itchy areas to rest of the body. After diligently analyzing the query I can make out a possibility of contact allergic dermatitis to some allergen. In such kind of conditions we find the spreading of lesions all over the body.
I generally prescribe a course of oral steroids or if required injectable steroids to reduce the further spread to all over the body. A topical steroid cream is required to apply over the itchy areas. An antihistamine such as des-loratadine si of much help to improve the condition. You can discuss all these points with your doctor.
All the best.
