Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have extreme pain to the very back of my foot - above the heel but below the Achilles' tendon. It has gotten progressively over the past 2 weeks and I cannot bear weight and can barely walk.
I do not recall doing anything traumatic to cause this pain. What can I do to get some relief?
Your symptoms could be due to plantar fasciitis. Following are symptoms of plantar fasciitis - Pain in foot and achillies tendon and in calf muscle. It also associated with swelling and numbness. Following are the risk factors: overweight, chronic standing, excessive exercise.
I would suggest to consult orthopedics surgeon and undergo clinical examination for proper treatment. Following treatment will help you:
- Complete rest. - Keep your leg in warm water with added epsom salt.
NSAIDS:
- Ibuprufen or diclofenac - Wear orthotic device for plantar fasciitis.
If it is not responding to above treatment then you can take shock wave therapy and Injection of steroids.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Best regards, Dr. Sagar
