Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a virus. Woke from coughing. Blew my nose and took honey to sooth cough. Went back to bed and had severe pain in my ear all night. Finally fell asleep but when I woke up I could not hear out of my ear at all. Dr. Said I burst blood vessels in ear and out me on antibiotic in case of secondary infection. It has been nine days and I still can not hear. Could it be a build up of wax and will I hurt anything if I use drops to try to clear it?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have severe ear pain which is because of infection of upper respiratory tract infection that has spread to ear through Eustachian tube. It could be due to trigeminal neuralgia, ear wax accumulation, ear fluid accumulation and fungal infection in ear. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis. You should go for otoscopic examination. Maintain complete hygiene. Take antibiotic along with anti-inflammatory medication. Apply warm compresses on ear. Put ciplox or gatiflox ear drops. avoid touching or pricking it with sharp object.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
