Suggest Treatment For Severe Depression And ADHD

Hello! a friend of mine is claiming that he has been suffering "severe depression" so he went to a psychiatrist 3 months ago. then the doctor administered 2 tests to him, a test to measure depression scale and another for ADHD. then, the psychiatrist prescribed him Feliz S (10mg) once a day paired with Xanor (25mg) 1/2 doze in the morning and 1 in the evening for 9 months.
However, though my friend tells me that he is depressed, I hate to say that I don't want to believe that he is really suffering severe depression. When he took batteries of psychology test, the result seem not to coincide with the serious symptoms of depression.
My question is, 1) What if it'll be proven that he is really not suffering depression and he goes on taking those prescribed medicines for 9 months? what will happen to him? 2) What is the expected side effects to my friend (should he really qualifies for depression) if he continues to take the medicines for 9months?

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. First of all I'd like to tell you that diagnosis of depression is based upon clinical history only and there are no specific investigations available to confirm diagnosis. The disorder some times present with lack of focus, irritability, poor concentration etc symptoms which can be mistaken as ADD symptoms. Diagnosis is based upon either of DSM 5 or ICD 10. Both are classification systems. So even if psychological tests show opposite results still he can have depression.

He has been prescribed Feliz-S and the drug is an antidepressant and antianxiety drug. It consists of Escitalopram and the drug is not free of serious side effects. Even if he has taken the drug and he doesn't have depression still there would not be any harm to his health. The drug doses can be weaned off gradually and he will become free of medicines. So no need to worry for that.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
