Suggest Treatment For Severe Cough And Sore Throat

We've (Two son's and myself) have had horrible cough's and sore thoughts. Clear mucus, no fever. Went to our GP and he gave us an antibiotic... didn't work. We are still coughing! What can we take to calm the cough without codine In it? Anything natural and otc?

hello,
your history is suggestive of common cold.
normally it gets cleared by the use of good antibiotics.
see, in cold many time patients develop mucus, but in starting it is yellow in colour which is suggestive of its being infected. antibiotics would clear the infection out of it.
course of antibiotic would clear the congestion in the throat too, which is giving you the sore throat feeling.
but many time it happens that the benign mucus still remains inside.
body tries to get rid of that mucus and in order to do that body keeps on removing it by coughing it out.
so i would recommend you not to take any cough suppressant, and you should try some mucolytic drugs to dissolve that benign mucus.
